#11  Dressage Stressage

So our next little outing will be some DRESSAGE 😱😱😱

We have a lesson tomorrow night, during which we really must practise our test, since I've only just bothered to look and see what it is, never mind learn it, and the competition is on Sunday 😳

We then have another lesson with an actual dressage rider on Friday, which I'm really looking forward to, but am also a teensy bit shatting my pants about. I'm only doing a Prelim test, but here's the thing:

I absolutely, totally, completely and utterly HATE flatwork.

I am shit at it. My legs aren't strong enough, my hands aren't consistent enough and I cannot keep Flora in an outline. She doesn't help matters with her jaw clenching and general resistance for the first half an hour of work, but I think this is where we are kindred spirits: all she wants to do is go fast and jump things, and all I want to do is point her at fences and fly over them ✈️. It's not called flatWORK for no reason πŸ™„

Hence why I am scared about the Friday lesson, because my usual instructor is sooooo patient with me, when he really must be itching to slap me, and this dressage specialist lady might just think I'm really really crap πŸ™ˆ Yes, my normal instructor threatens to tie my hands together to keep them higher and more level, and yes he threatens to stab me πŸ”ͺ when I do things wrong, but this other lady doesn't know me and probably won't care that I just like being soft on Flora's mouth 😭

Anyway, fingers crossed all goes well, because I can't avoid dressage forever and, yes, I do understand that flatwork is what gets me from fence to fence when we're jumping.

Considering the only picture I could find of me working Flora even remotely on the bit was last yearπŸ‘‡πŸ½, I'm not especially hopeful about Sunday. But who cares? It's all good fun and at least Charlotte Dujardin doesn't have to worry about any competition from us any time in the near...ever πŸ™„

Wish us luck! πŸ΄πŸ€
